Breath of Fire IV PC now available on Steam!

No, this is not an April Fools’ Day joke! Breath of Fire IV PC has been surprise-dropped on Steam today alongside the original Resident Evil trilogy!

Like the re-releases of Dino Crisis 1 & 2 before it, Capcom has brought GOG.com’s optimized version of the 2003 PC port to Steam. It retails for $9.99 USD but is currently half-off as a launch discount until April 15, 2026 at 10:00AM PDT / 17:00 UTC (April 16, 2026 at 2:00AM JST).

You probably have some questions about this surprise release. Is it just like the GOG version? What’s different? To answer these, I’ve put together a FAQ on the game’s Steam community forums, so please give it a read! Then, go over to Steam and buy the game! Oh and get the soundtracks while you’re at it.

Capcom touts the following on the game’s store page:

  • All 2 localizations of the game included (English and Japanese) (Dragnier note: seems they forgot the games were localized into Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese back in 2003, no?)
  • Improved DirectX game renderer
  • New rendering options (Windowed Mode, Vertical Synchronization Control, Gamma Correction, Integer Scaling, Anti-Aliasing, and more)
  • Improved audio engine (restored missing environmental sounds and audio configuration)
  • Improved keyboard and mouse support
  • Improved Warehouse and Crane minigames
  • Improved F9 exit screen
  • Issue-free battle and combo system (all crashes have been fixed)
  • Issue-free cutscene scripting
  • Issue-free task switching
