GOG.com has notified me that a 1.0 hotfix6 for the PC version of Breath of Fire IV has been released.
This hotfix fixes an infamous crash that can occur in the English PC version of the game when players attempt to view Ershin’s Power Glove weapon in the Manillo Shop in Chiqua.
The crash was previously fixed thanks to modder TheRealBiggs, who narrowed down the cause of the crash to a single byte within the Power Glove text description. This fix removed that single, offending byte by shifting the bytes after it up by one in all the game files that included this text description. Still, it’s good that an official hotfix now exists.

To update the game, launch GOG Galaxy, right-click Breath of Fire IV, and select “Check for updates”.
With the GOG versions of Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2 having been released on Steam on February 12, 2026, we have to wonder if Breath of Fire IV may see a release on there. Time will only tell! The GOG versions of Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2 originally came out on January 29, 2025, over a year prior to their Steam release. If the GOG exclusivity period is only about a year, then perhaps we really could see Breath of Fire IV make its way to Steam sometime after its 1-year GOG anniversary on April 25th.
It does make me wonder if a Steam release would include all the optimizations and hotfixes featured in the GOG release. In the meantime, you can buy the DRM-free version of Breath of Fire IV on GOG.com for a great price.
